After announcing his candidacy for the Greens in Buninyong at the beginning of August he has been busy doorknocking to get his message out to the masses.
With his wife due to give birth on the day of the election, Mr Goodfellow is probably twice as busy as most, with the impending one of the key reasons for his focus on the future of Victoria.
"I do enjoy it, there are lots of challenges, I am learning a lot, learning about the local issues," he said.
"As a sociologist, I love hearing people's stories."
Mr Goodfellow originally started out his university life studying environmental science, but shifted to sociology when he realised more could be done for the environment through working with people.
He only returned to the region in recent times after working in the Northern Territory with Indigenous communities for a number of years.
Despite being against the odds in Buninyong he said he believed more people were considering voting for the Greens.
"The Green base has been growing since it came here and it is just going to get bigger," he said.
"As people get more savvy they are turning to the Greens.
"They are sick of just the old political parties and see the Greens as a legitimate option that has integrity."
Tony Goodfellow answers our 10 questions
How should we make our community safer?
Education can give young people options and choices for the future. The barriers to education should be removed and there should be a strong education system and a strong TAFE.
Should the Civic Hall be restored or demolished?
I think the community have spoken on that. It should be kept.
What action should be taken on climate change?
We have been using the air like a rubbish dump. The coal and gas should kept in the ground. The Greens are the only party that has been against coal seam gas and have stood with the farmers. There is $5 billion worth of investment in Victoria for renewable infrastructure that is ready to be built if there was certainty, which the Greens can bring with the Victorian Renewable Energy Target.
Do you think same-sex marriage should be legal?
Yes. I have some friends, a gay couple, who have been together for years and I see no reason why consenting loving adults cannot be married.
Do you think abortion should be legal and available to all women?
Yep.
What is the biggest infrastructure priority for Ballarat?
The biggest infrastructure priority is sustainable transport. A public transport system that is efficient and the Greens propose a railway line open to the public from Geelong to Ballarat and to Bendigo and it goes through small townships that are growing like Bannockburn. Also buses and fostering active transport like walking and riding. I think public transport should be more convenient than cars.
Should tomato sauce be free with a meat pie?
Yes, well if it was my auntie's tomato sauce then I would pay, but the squeeze ones should be free.
The Beatles or Rolling Stones?
OK while people are debating that I will be listening to Bob Dylan. But the real question is Biggie or Tupac?
What's your favourite TV show?
Flight of the Concords or anything with a New Zealand accent.
What's your favourite meal?
There is a little cafe here (Buninyong) Espresso Depot that has some amazing yoyos and I always steal my wife's yoyos.
