The Vikings look to enter the upcoming Football Federation Victoria state league four series in top nick after acquiring the services of 10 players from around the Ballarat region.
Headlining a long list of ins are Ballarat District Soccer Association premiership stars Adam and Luke Swards, alongside Nicholas Dean.
The Swards brothers, both midfielders, were integral to Ballarat’s league-cup double in 2014, with Dean also influential in the centre-back role.
The trio will be joined by goalkeeper Michael Henry, who was part of the Reds’ 2013 championship side.
Vikings senior coach Michael Busija is excited to see what the quartet can offer at state league level.
“They’ve done well in the pre-season games, but this is a different style of football,” he said. “There’s (a factor) of not knowing your opposition (to overcome), because they’ve been playing other BDSA teams three times every year. Their inclusion shows a little bit about what we’re trying to be as a soccer club.”
Sebastopol will also field sides featuring a number of former Ballarat Red Devils, with Simo Mitrovic, Mitch Lewis, Brayden Baker, Lachie Dawson, Liam Dawson and Brandon Boscher already making the jump across from Ballarat’s under-20 ranks in the National Premier Leagues Victoria competition.
Busija said the club was working to confirm several last-minute signings after locking in Ballarat Futsal Centre manager and former Red Devils junior coach Corey Smith for a development role that involves coaching the reserves.
However, the Vikings have also lost A-graders Paul McClounan, Jonathan Davey and Shaya Almousa.
McClounan has signed with Corio in FFV state league one and Davey has joined the Red Devils in a coaching capacity, while Almousa has returned to his home in Saudi Arabia.
Busija said the list would be finalised in the lead-up to Sebastopol’s first match of the season against Melbourne City on Saturday, March 21.
