With less than 25 days until the kick off of this year’s month of events, requests for tickets have already flooded in and organisers are urging the Ballarat community get in quick to secure their spots.

With more than 40 local businesses involved in this year’s event, The Courier’s Kristy Bye said Ballarat’s food-lovers were in for a treat.

She said the diversity of each of this year’s events meant there was bound to be something for everyone.

“This year the event caters for families, you have The Park Hotel doing a picnic in the park and Round The Way Bagels Truck Jam at Loreto Point to more high-range events such as A Night With Peter Ford,” she said.

“It’s not just savories and wine, it’s every aspect of Ballarat produce.”

With an aim of showcasing the best food and wine on the region’s doorstep, Ms Bye said the event was “without a doubt” helping put Ballarat’s produce and multicultural diversity on the map.

She said the popularity of last year’s Good Food month laid the foundations for a bigger and better second year.

“Last year absolutely exceeded our expectations. It showed just how ready Ballarat is for something like this,” she said.

“I think the fact we have so many repeat businesses goes to show how great the feedback was.”

With more than 1000 people attending last years popular Family Hawkers Market – many queued along the length of Lydiard Street to get inside – organisers were forced to add a second date to this year’s calendar.

The Family Hawkers Market will kick off this year’s month of foodie events across Ballarat beginning on October 30 between 5-10pm at the Ballarat Mining Exchange, with a second market held on the following day between 10am-3pm.

More than 13 local restaurateurs and chefs including The Forge Pizzeria, Rebellion Brewery, Fu Man Lou and Kitteltys will offer everything from steak to churros at this year’s market.

The celebration of culinary delights will continue throughout November with Ballarat locals encouraged to indulge in as much produce as their stomachs will allow.

“Jump outside your comfort zone and try something different. We have something to try for everyone,” Ms Bye has encouraged locals.

But foodies are urged to get in early for ticketed events and purchase spots before they are sold out.

“Get in quick, last year all of the events sold out,” Ms Bye said.

“I’ve spoken to some of the businesses who have said they’ve already had calls.”

Other events over Good Food Month include the Hot Temple first annual Australia versus New Zealand brewing battle, The Western Hotel paddock to plate lunch, Mitchell Harris chocolate and wine pairing, and Knife Fork Spoon dessert after dark event.
