While the location and modern décor may be entirely new, Zaragosa owner Scott Anstis, says the menu features some old favourites that punters never tire of.
Their signature Churros dessert is one such drawcard.
Offered with a choice of delicious dipping sauces - rich chocolate, caramel and vanilla bean or raspberry- it remains one of Zaragosa’s sweet successes.
Mr Anstis explains the churros phenomenon to those unacquainted with the sweet Spanish breakfast treat.
“Traditionally you might eat Churros with a really thick, rich hot chocolate and you dip the long-stick shaped doughnut into that hot chocolate sauce. The way we differ from the traditional way is we serve it with a side dish of different sauces.”
Punters can experience hot churros for themselves at this year’s Hawkers Market where Zaragosa will be offering the full complement of dipping sauces for sweet-tooted Hawkers.
The Spanish theme is also in full swing for its in-house event on 22 November which will be a multi-course meal showcasing the best of the menu – both mains and desserts.
For those who have trouble deciding on just the one dessert, Zaragosa is offering a tasting board with selection of their most mouth-watering treats, including their mojito cheesecake, choc-chill-berry icecream and Spanish churros with dipping sauces.
Drinks will be matched to complement the food; red sangria, white sangria, margaritas and aged tequilas, the latter of which goes particularly well with dessert, according to Mr Anstis.
After their move to the new premises, Mr Anstis says the lower end of Sturt Street is really changing, and they are attracting a much broader patronage than when they were at the top of Victoria Street.
Traditionally a quieter spot on the local restaurant scene, the bottom-end of Sturt is now humming along nicely, he says:
“A lot more people are happier to come into Ballarat, park their car and walk up Sturt Street not necessarily knowing where you are going to go but knowing you’re going to have some good options picking whatever takes your fancy.”
Zaragosa’s Spring into spanish event will be held on Sunday, November 22 at 12.30pm.
Cost: $60 per person or $95 matched with wine. Bookings: 5333 1435.
