Her new venue, built on a food philosophy of “quirky food made with love,” replaced Harvest Foodstore and Cafe at 16 Lydiard Street as of July.
The menu is made up of decadent home-baked goodies, savoury tarts, frittatas and “luscious lunches,” she said.
Soups, pastas and warm salads are offered for lunch along with “luscious” specials like ‘megs fancy pants sandwich’ of chicken breast and bacon, bubbled brie, crispy onion rings, barbeque aioli and a side of ‘slaw. There’s also the popular warm, smoked-chicken salad with rocket, pine nuts, and blue cheese dressing with a honey drizzle.
Since moving to Ballarat from Far North Queensland in May, Ms Laird-Church has been excited by what she’s seen of the local food scene:
“The availability of amazing, fresh produce even at a market level is really exciting for me,” she said.
“I love that people embrace the fact that both local and small businesses matter and their support makes the holistic food chain go around. There are so many wonderful small business producers that deserve acknowledgement.”
The focus for Good Food Ballarat will be on “Dessert After Dark” - an evening event on November 28 offering a tasting plate of decadent dessert teasers - “for those who can’t decide on only one option,” Ms Laird-Church said.
Cakes will be accompanied by espresso, tea from The Rabbit Hole Organic Tea Bar, decadent hot chocolate by Grounded Pleasures and milk shakes.
Dessert After Dark will be held on Saturday, November 28 between 6-11pm. Bookings: 5331 2001.
