CHRIS Hamilton added the under-23 national road title to his criterium championship of last year with a narrow win at Saturday’s 132.6km event in Buninyong.
The Bendigo rider held off former Ballarat Claredon College student Lucas Hamilton in a close finish.
Bronze went to South Australian defending champion Miles Scotson, who won a five-rider sprint to place third.
“It’s pretty surreal. I don't think it’s sunk in yet," Chris Hamilton said.
“I thought the criterium win was pretty cool last year, but to come out with another jersey, it is unbelievable.
“A lot of people who I look up to are amongst the winners of this event, I know that much.”
As the two Hamilton boys started the final five kilometres of the race, they had 30 seconds on the chasing bunch. And coming to the finish it was Lucas that held the lead, but Chris took over with 200m remaining and held on to score a narrow result.
