Crews were alerted to the medium sized blaze at 6.19pm, with the fire marked as ‘under control’ by 7.28pm.
Twenty six crews were listed in attendance at the fire located on Old Skipton Road near the Lake Goldsmith Game Reserve – located about 14 kilometres south of Beaufort and 16 kilometres north of Skipton.
Residents at Lake Goldsmith, Mount Emu and Stockyard Hill were at one point advised that leaving their homes was the safest course of action while firefighters dealt with the 12-hectare blaze.
VicRoads advised that Cushing Road was closed at 6.45pm and and was only accessible for emergency services.
The CFA confirmed the fire was still being contained at about 8pm, with 17 crews mopping up and constructing a fire break.
The North Central Fire District is marked as a ‘high’ on the CFA’s fire danger ratings for Wednesday.
