The boy appeared at a children's court on Thursday morning under police guard.
He has been charged with armed robbery, attempted armed robbery and other offences.
The teenager sat in the dock emotionless as his defence lawyer told a magistrate he had existing medical conditions and had struggled while in custody before.
The magistrate order an immediate medical examination of the boy be undertaken.
He made no application for bail and was remanded in custody.
He is due to appear at a children's court on February 1.
