A STRONG contingent of schools will be among crews at the Ballarat Rowing Association regatta on Saturday – the first major event for oarsman on Lake Wendouree for the year.
Event co-ordinator Ross Litchfield said Ballarat students would be joined some of the strongest rowing schools in Melbourne and Geelong.
As well representing their schools, some Ballarat youngsters will also row for the Ballarat City and Wendouree Ballarat clubs.
He said the regatta had attracted a big turn-out of 311 entries.
More than 600 rowers will fill 1050 seats in 94 races, which begin at 8am.
The day will also feature some state under-21 selection trials.
Unfortunately, in contrast to the big turn out on Saturday, the City of Ballarat Sprint Championships planned for Lake Wendouree on Sunday has been cancelled owing to a lack of entries.
Litchfield said the association would liaise with Rowing Victoria about the future of the sprint championships after the event was also called off last year.
