Nominations for the $60 million round of funding closed on January 15, with second round evaluation to take place in June before funded locations are announced by the end of the year.
Pyrenees Shire chief executive Jim Nolan said mobile phone coverage has been a concern for Pyrenees Shire Council for some time.
“We were delighted last year when the federal government announced that three towers would be built at Landsborough, Landsborough West and Moonambel as part of the Mobile Phone Blackspot Program,” Mr Nolan said.
”The lack of mobile phone coverage in that area had been a concern for some time.
“We have nominated six mobile phone black spots in the Shire in addition to locations previously nominated, with Lexton our highest priority.”
