A NEW-FOUND love for gardening has led 58-year-old Redan resident Bryan Mayne to begin reinvigorating the flora of his whole court.
After becoming fed up with the state of the gardens at his community housing, Mr Mayne began bringing his own patch back to life.
“I started with six plants, because I just wanted to do something with my area,” Mr Mayne said.
This soon caught the attention of his neighbours, and he has since received requests to begin paid work as a gardener.
“I thought why not give the other units something nice,” Mr Mayne said. “I enjoy doing it and I enjoy seeing the look on the neighbours’ faces when they see what I’ve put in.”
On Wednesday Mr Mayne competed in the annual Victoria in Bloom competition in Geelong, which allows people in community housing throughout the state to show off their gardening skills across a number of categories.
Mr Mayne, said the project had awoken a new-found passion in him, and he now hopes to take up landscaping full time.
