Telstra data has revealed the staggering amount of data that Ballarat residents are using as a result of the National Broadband Network roll-out.
Statistics supplied by the service provider indicate that local residents are predicted to have shared more than 48 million photos through social media by the end of the season as the NBN roll-out continues across Ballarat.
Residents are estimated to churn through 2.8 million gigabytes of data over the summer months – which is the equivalent to 48 million photos, 742,000 Facebook posts, 68,000 Instagram posts, 200,000 tweets, and 20,000 hours of video combined.
Telstra Area General Manager Bill Mundy, said Ballarat residents have been among the fastest in the country to adopt the NBN.
“The community was estimated to churn through a phenomenal amount of data over summer, staying the most connected on celebratory public holidays including Christmas Day, Australia Day and New Year,” he said.
To celebrate world class connectivity and honour the information epicentre of town, local artist Cax One has created a mural in Bridge Mall as a symbol of the city’s increased online connection capabilities.
