ST ALIPIUS Parish School pupils and staff pitched in to weed out rubbish from a public reserve on Friday.
Eighty grades 3 and 4 pupils collected rubbish at McKenzie Reserve near King Street as part of Schools Clean Up Day, which is in its 25th year.
St Alipius Parish School sustainability co-ordinator Dan Pollard said the pupils were learning about waste in their sustainability studies, linking it up with Clean Up Australia Day.
“It’s that element of doing something rather then just talking about it. Pupils learn more and take on more responsibility,” Mr Pollard said.
He said the school took part in Schools Tree Day, water watch at the Yarrowee River and was involved with the Ballarat Community Garden.
Clean Up Australia Day will be held on Sunday.
