TWO Ballarat riders will be vying for titles at the Australian Mountain Bike Championships at Bright this weekend.
Ballarat Sebastopol Cycling Club pair Dan Taylor and Dominic Geoghegan will race in the under-23 category.
Awaiting the 20-year-olds are five laps of a six-kilometre circuit.
Geoghegan said he was looking forward to tackling challenge.
"We're pretty excited," he said.
"But it's pretty competitive. The World Cup is in Australia this year so everyone is going to be pretty fit.
"This event is generally considered one of the shorter formats, so it's usually flat-out."
Geoghegan, who trains up to six times a week, is hesistant to talk his chances up too much, instead declaring that he hoped to finish within the top 20.
However, he said he and Taylor had learned valuable lessons from competing in national series rounds in Bairnsdale and Canberra earlier this year.
"We learned the level you have to be at and how technical some of the courses can be," Geoghegan said.
"Ballarat's trails aren't that hard, but when you get out of there, it gets pretty real pretty quick."
Geoghegan said they hoped to use the experience gained from this year's championships to perform even better next year,
