Video court hearings will reduce pressure on police cells.
COURT hearings of primarily administrative nature will be heard by video link in a bid to reduce the pressure on police cells.
New legislation introduced by the Andrews Labor Government will see only those prisoners who are required to attend court in person being transferred to police cells for their hearing.
The use of video court hearings will also create an opportunity for legal practitioners to communicate with their clients.
The full statewide rollout is expected to be completed by early 2017.
