A bicycle refurbishment program has also been established at the Ballarat YMCA under the Transport Connections Innovation Fund. Overall, Ballarat City Council has received $75,000 to improve participation for people with limited transport access.
The Ballarat Rack-A-Bike Program will see innovative street art double as functional bike racks around Lake Wendouree.
They will blend into the surrounding environment and will be installed over the next two months. The Ballarat reCYCLE Program involves the YMCA and other community groups restoring old bikes to be provided to young people in need.
Mechanical and refurbishment skills are also taught and recipients undertake bike safety, riding skills and basic maintenance training.
Anyone with unused old bikes can donate to the YMCA.
