BALLARAT drivers are being urged to install safe screws on their plates, amid a rise in the number of stolen number plates linked to other crimes.
Residents will be able to get safety screws installed on their plates at Bunnings Warehouse basement carpark this Saturday between 10.30am and 1pm, for only $1.
Leading Senior Constable Janine Walker said the safety screws were a deterrent for thieves who often tried to unscrew every number plate before they came across one without safe plates.
“Theft of number plates is theft of personal identity,” Leading Senior Constable Walker said.
“When number plates are stolen criminals often go on to commit further offence,”
“Victoria Police urge all residents to secure number plates and target harden against crime.”
The gold coin donation will go toward Neighbourhood Watch.
Leading Senior Constable Walker urged the community to get behind this crime prevention initiative.
