THE Ballarat Sovereigns have continued their good form, forcing the top of the ladder Melbourne University to fight hard to take the points 52-46 in their round eight encounter on Wednesday night.
Coming off the back of their maiden 2016 victory the Sovereigns came into the clash with confidence, playing well above their ladder position to go into the first break neck and neck with Melbourne Uni at 11-11.
The Lightning were still unable to provide themselves with breathing space in the second quarter, going into the main change with a single goal buffer.
While the Lightning managed to break away in the third quarter to go to the final change with a six goal advantage, the Sovereigns refused to go away, with six goals the final difference.
The gritty effort will serve as a huge confidence booster for the Ballarat outfit as they prepare for their first home game of the season next Saturday.
They will face another tough assignment in reigning premier the Boroondara Express.
