Alicia MacLean has always been intent on making a difference.
She will do all the burpees it takes to ensure thousands of dollars for the Royal Children’s Hospital are raised at this year’s Making a Difference Ball.
The idea for the ball started nearly a decade ago.
“Originally Hamish and I had a friend, he was 27 and had a heart condition,” Ms MacLean.
“He had a pace maker and then on Hamish’s birthday eight years ago he suffered a massive heart attack and passed away.
“We wanted to do something in his name – so this idea was formed.”
The ball will be on July 30 at the Mercure Hotel.
“So far it looks like there will be 400 people at the Mercure,” Ms MacLean said.
“There will be a red carpet and photos will be taken.”
One of the biggest draw-cards for this year’s event will be guest speaker Kelly Cartwright.
Ms Cartwright is a paralympian who had part of her right leg amputated due to the cancer.
“Paralympian and Dancing with the Stars contestant Kelly Cartwright is the inspirational guest speaker and face of this year’s event,” Ms MacLean said.
She won a gold and silver medal in the London Paralympics.
Ms MacLean said the involvement of Kade Dowie and local cross fit organisation Bunniyong CrossFit Organisation was a huge help.
To raise funds for the Royal Children’s Hospital, people can nominate the amount of burpees they would like to do.
They then seek sponsorship from family, friends and work colleagues for a dollar for every burpee completed on Burpee Day on July 2.
Every dollar raised then goes directly to the Royal Children’s Hospital via the Everyday Hero website.
The event will be at Mercure Ballarat Hotel and Convention Centre on Saturday, 30 July 2016 from 6:30pm to 11:55pm.
