A panel of scientists from the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation wants to challenge Ballarat residents on Thursday night and help them discover the science behind email.
The World Wide Web will collide with science in a 90 minute Fact or Fiction show, where the audience will watch popular internet clips and vote on whether what they saw was science fact or pure science fiction.
Once audience voting is locked in, an ANSTO panel will critique the science featured and reveal the answer.
ANSTO’s Rod Dowler said Fact or Fiction was entertaining and educational.
“Every day most people use a device to connect to the internet. We will be teaching people both about mechanics and how to critique the content they consume through the lens of science,” Mr Dowler said. “Fact or Fiction is a great opportunity for the whole family to come along, and have a guess about the science that is part of day-to-day life.”
Mr Dowler said the show would also explore whether the internet was eating your memory and hypothesise what the internet would be like in the year 2025.
As part of the show’s interactive format, the audience is asked to bring their own devices with WiFi capability.
Fact or Fiction is a free forum at Federation University’s Founders Theatre on Thursday, 7pm. Reserve tickets at: www.factorfictionballarat.eventbrite.com.au
