The latest bust of former prime minister Tony Abbott will be created by a new sculptor and the first female artist to add to the collection, Linda Klarfeld. It’s due to be delivered later this year.
Opened in 1940 following a generous donation and the establishment of a bequest by noted Ballarat philanthropist and former parliamentarian Richard Armstrong Crouch, just four sculptors are represented so far in the avenue. Three of those were born in or near Ballarat.
The Courier compared the existing busts with photographs of their subjects, to try to determine which came closest to representing not only the physical representation of the person, but their nature. There was wide-ranging opinion in the office over which was best – and worst.
