
PART of the Midland Highway near Scotsburn was closed this morning when flames engulfed a small section of a truck.
Firefighters were called to a truck fire at 5.15am. The truck was travelling in the Ballarat-bound lane of the highway when the fire occurred.
Buninyong Fire Brigade said en route members were advised the truck was carrying 60,000 litres of flammable fuel.
Once on scene there was smoke and embers visible from the under the bonnet of the B-Double prime mover.
They said a mechanical failure caused the fire which was quickly brought under control.
Crews from Ballarat City, Mt Buninyong, Ballarat and Sebastopol brigades responded due the potential for the incident to escalate but were cancelled shortly after the fire was controlled.
A CFA media spokeswoman confirmed the small fire was extinguished by 5.30am however crews stayed on scene to clean up a small amount of fuel that had leaked onto the road.
Police and Vic Roads were also on scene.
