
Walkers enjoying the scenic trails of Mount Buninyong were treated to a nasty shock when they returned to their cars to find they had been trawled through by brazen thieves.
Buninyong police are appealing to any witnesses who saw anyone acting suspiciously around a cluster of four vehicles in the top carpark of the mountain before 10am on Sunday.
Police said the walkers were enjoying a peaceful walk and had left their vehicles for a few hours.
Upon their return after 10am, the cars were damaged and a number of items were stolen.
Police described the accident as brazen and extremely unusual.
