BALLARAT Rugby Club recorded a valuable win over Monash University 28-17 on Saturday as it eyes a home semi-final in two weeks time.

The Rattas got off to a brilliant start as Mitch Cattell scored the opening three tries to set the tone for what was a dominant first half. Winger Tom Azarnikow followed suit before Chris Debono scored just prior to the half-time siren for Ballarat’s fifth try - giving it a 25-0 lead at the main break.
The Monash response came after half-time. As it scored three tries and held Ballarat to a single penalty goal to cut the margin to nine points.
But the scoreboard damage inflicted in the first half allowed the Rattas to hold on for victory.
Ballarat is yet to lose at home and is third on the ladder – one game behind Melbourne, this weekend’s opponent, and Melton. A home final could prove influential to its premiership chances.
