ACU Sovereigns 19 and under team continued its strong form Wednesday night with a seven-goal win over sixth-placed Yarra Valley in the Victorian Netball League.
Sovereigns led by one goal at half-time before moving clear of Yarra Valley with a pivotal third term to take a six-goal lead into the final change. Eventually holding strong throughout a hard-fought final 15 minutes.
It was the side’s fifth win in a row and its twelfth of the season to have it comfortably sitting in the top four. With just one more round remaining in the home and away season the side can start preparing for what will hopefully be a successful finals campaign.
The 19-under team has been the standout performer of the Sovereigns three divisions, giving hope to the club that its future in the VNL is in safe hands.
Chairman Bill Mundy has stated his gratitude towards the 19-under side, with a lot of the Sovereigns youth also getting exposure at division one and championship level.
Similar success couldn’t be shared by the division one or championship teams.
Division one trailed by a goal at the main change before producing a lackluster second half, to inevitably go down by 23 goals. The championship team will return to Ballarat the most disappointed, having allowed Yarra Valley to register its first win of the season. Albeit having a number of key injuries.
