POPULAR Ballarat tourism operator Cave Hill Creek has claimed the Victoria Tourism Industry Council small business award.
The Beaufort based outdoor recreation venue received the accolade at Victoria’s peak tourism industry conference in Bendigo.
The award, a $10,000 grant, is designed to promote professional development and business excellence in tourism and is timely in the education tourism sector given learning about Aboriginal history and culture has recently been added to the Victorian school curriculum.
The business plans to use the award to develop an indigenous cultural awareness training program and interpretive visitor experience for guests.
Outdoor operations manager Simon Milligan accepted the award on Cave Hill Creek’s behalf.
“We were very honored to receive this award and would like to thank local indigenous community members and VTIC for their support. We look forward to working with local indigenous representatives to develop a leading cultural awareness program,” Mr Milligan said.
The business offers a range of summer and school camps, expeditions and also serves as a location for weddings.
