Ryan Gregson has cruised into the semi-final of the 1500m at the Rio Olympics, finishing second in his heat on Tuesday morning in a time of 3:39.13, the 11th fastest time from the three heats.

The 26-year-old Wollongong athlete who has spent time training with Collis Birminham’s Ballarat Project will compete in the next stage on Thursday.
Fellow Australian Luke Mathews was less successful in the heats, falling short of a semi-final berth in a time of 3:44.51.
