WestVic Hockey's Women's Victorian League two team has advanced to the grand final following a tense 1-0 victory over Melton on Sunday.
Tessa Noone got WestVic Hockey off to a perfect start with a goal in the opening 90 seconds of the do-or-die final - and that would prove to be the match-winning goal in what was a tightly contested affair.
WestVic had some genuine chances throughout the remainder of the match but were unable to add to its tally. Both side's defensive units took the honours as neither side was able to break through despite numerous penalty corners.
Micaela Dali was named WestVic's best player while goal-keeper Ruth Ryan was influential in the result, making several saves.
The one-goal victory sets up a replay of the 2015 grand final as it prepares to take on the unrivalled Old Xaverians. Old Xaverians are yet to lose this season and accounted for WestVic Hockey 3-0 in the first week of finals.
The grand final berth assures the side of being promoted to Women’s Victorian League one in 2017.
