A 45-year-old Ballarat man started offending to pay for his ice addiction, a court has heard.
Michael Robb was on Monday jailed after pleaded guilty at the Ballarat Magistrates Court to burglaries at two Cardigan properties in September last year.
The court heard Robb stole more than $1600 in items including copper wire and a water metre from two Monument Boulevard properties under construction.
Robb’s lawyer, Eric Myles, said his client’s offending was linked to ice use, where he was committing crimes to pay for the drug.
He said Robb was homeless at the time, but now had stable accommodation and was in a better position to engage with support services and get clean from drugs.
Magistrate Frank Jones jailed Robb for three months.
In a separate case Ballarat man Darcy Hunter, who was arrested on warrants for a number of alleged charges including burglary and theft of a car, was bailed to appear in court for a plea hearing on October 4.
