Ballarat has spoken about which budding artists have made a place in the city’s heart.
The Courier’s Young Archies People’s Choice Awards received more than 3000 votes over the past week.
Winning the Prep to Year 2 category was Jordyn Straga, 7, of Urquhart Park Primary School with “Blaire my friend”.
Scarlett James, 10, of Pleasant Street Primary School, won the Years 3 to 5 category with her picture, “Barack Obama”.
Teaneil Sarre,12, of Donald High School, won the Year 6 to 8 section with her portrait, “Cara”.
The official Young Archies Awards, judged by the Art Gallery of Ballarat, are yet to be announced.
All 300 finalists have been invited to a ceremony next Friday night, the same night as the Archibald Prize exhibition opens, where the three formal winners will be announced.
The finalists’ portraits have been mounted in the windows of businesses and venues across the city.
