EVERY morning Caitlyn Eastmure wakes up early for a run around her block. It has been tough in the dark, and freezing cold lately, but Caitlyn knows she can do it.
Caitlyn, who just turned 12, is on a mission to be ready for the Run Ballarat three-kilometre event. A keen swimmer and basketballer, Caitlyn wants to become a good runner so she can run with friends.
“I’ve always loved running, I think it’s great. I’ve never done Run Ballarat, because the last couple of times it has been on my birthday parties,” Caitlyn said. “I thought this year it’s my chance.”
Caitlyn’s mum Julie helped her measure a course in her neighbourhood and, building up, Caitlyn knows she can do the distance.
Most weekends Caitlyn walks around the lake with her mum and dog. One day she hoped to run the whole lake without stopping. For now, Caitlyn is enjoying running for her physical health, mental wellbeing and happiness.
“I’m starting easy and working up,” Caitlyn said.
