It would have been hard to believe it was possible a few years ago when Lake Wendouree was parched to the bone.
The lake is so full, due to recent rain conditions, that the idyllic Golden City paddle steamer can’t even get out of its shed.
The boat is wedged up against the roof, with organisers praying the lake doesn’t rise any further, which could see the historic replica steamer begin to suffer damage.
Golden City Paddle Steamer and Museum Society president Daryl Smith said the situation was disappointing, as the weekend’s warm weather would have made perfect steamer conditions.
“While we’re more than happy to see the lake with a lot of water in it, we’re just a bit disappointed we can’t get out the door,” he said.
“The lake has got to drop at least six inches or more for us to be able to get it out of the shed. It could be several weeks before we get it out.”
Mr Smith said the society was looking for new members.
