Recruit Curt Townrow and Nathan Yates made up for lost time with a swashbuckling partnership to lead Mt Clear to a decisive 191-run one-day win over North Ballarat on the first day of the delayed Ballarat Cricket Association firsts season on Saturday.
Townrow made 130 and Yates 97 in a 197-run stand.
Townrow from Echuca smashed seven fours and 12 sixes off 76 balls in 106 minutes at the crease on the Mt Clear No.2 Oval.
Yates was equally punishing, with the seasoned all-rounder hitting seven fours and nine sixes off 64 deliveries.
Mt Clear made 8-352, while North Ballarat could only reply with 161.
Golden Point’s premiership defence did not start well, losing to Darley in low-scoring contest on the Darley turf.
Point made just 134, which Darley covered with four wickets in hand.
Ballarat-Redan, 9-180, fell in by one wicket from Brown Hill, 179 at Alfredton No.2, while Wendouree, 7-193, cruised home against East Ballarat, 97
