Geoff Bonney’s totem-like sculptures are humorous self-explorations looking at different personality types, epitomised by the various “appendages” they sport.
“There’s a fair bit of indigenous Australian influence, African influence and a fair twist of Bonney,” he said.
“All the titles are ‘something-man’. If it’s got a firehose end of the top of his head, it’s fire man. There’s air man, fireman, hitman, conman, there’s echidna man.”
He said each sculpture had a different type of appendage, which gave clues about their personalities.
Bonney said the works would soon be shown in Melbourne, but he wanted to showcase them locally first.
“It’s a fairly unusual show and...people who have seen it so far have just wandered in and chuckled to themselves,” he said.
“It’s serious art by the way, it’s not just fun.”
New sculptures (the man show) will be held at Art Hall Learmonth this Sunday from 2pm to 5pm. Free entry and drinks; all welcome.
