Workplace foster program to help socialise greyhounds

PETstock Ballarat’s head office began fostering Ebony three weeks ago through greyhound rescue Gumtree Greys.

The Pet Rescue workplace foster program helps socialise greyhounds like Ebony who might only have ever known dogs of her own breed. 

“She'll come in and our role is to help her find her feet, she's come pretty much directly from a training facility so now she's come in and she's learning to be a dog,” PETstock foster carer Shayne Barton, who has Ebony overnight and on weekends, said. 

“She's learning how to be social, what people do, and how she can be a part of it.”

The benefits for the office in having Ebony are “huge”, Ms Barton said. 

“We're finding the office is abuzz with Ebs being around, people are engaged, people are excited.

“There's no barriers, she can walk up to anyone, she can interrupt anyone and everyone is happy to see her.”
