Midlands combinations landed the major prizes in Daylesford Bowling Club’s Melbourne Cup Day mixed fours medley.
Wally Slocombe’s rink took out all its five games to win the event, while last year’s victor Barry Phelan was runner-up with four wins and a draw.
Some 14 teams with 56 players from BMS, Creswick, Daylesford, Midlands and Mt Xavier competed in the event comprising 10 ends of mixed fours; men’s and women’s pairs; and three-bowls mixed pairs.
In keeping with the Melbourne Cup Day theme, Daylesford members Janice Van der Hoven and David Goldman were judged man and lady of the day.
Daylesford chairman Leon Hedwards said it was a great opportunity for members to get in more bowls given the lack of opportunities to play this season.
He said the club was looking to recover from a slow start to the season with improved form.
“The more time we get to spend on the greens the better,” Hedwards said.
