The Salvos gave Ms Murekezi a temporary home and helped her prepare for her baby boy, who is now 2-months-old.
“It’s important for me because with my situation, I’m a single mum, I don’t have much family help so them helping me makes my life easy.
“It made me stress less than sleeping in the night thinking ‘where I am going to get a baby pram?’.
“Knowing I have them as a back up makes me so happy, it’s nice to always have people to run to when you need help.”
A fundraiser for SalvoConnect Western children’s services and childcare centre is on Saturday, November 5.
Walking Home has five distances from 36-kilometres (Linton to Ballarat) to 3-kilometres (Lucas to the CBD). Entry is between $50 and $20 depending on the distance.
