Visitors are showing up in droves to this year’s Archibald Prize exhibition at the Art Gallery of Ballarat.
Gallery marketing and public programs officer Peter Freund said on Sunday October 30, more than 1800 people attended the exhibition.
It was so far the biggest turnout this year for the Archibald.
“As of Sunday, we’d had nearly 17,000 people through the show. The equivalent period last year was 14,000 visitors,” Mr Freund said.
“It may well be that we top last year’s visitors.”
Last year, the Archibald exhibition attracted almost 56,000 visitors in total.
Mr Freund said the most popular dates tended to be special late-night events on Fridays.
The winner of this year’s Archibald prize, Louise Hearman who painted Barry Humphries, will speak at the Art Gallery of Ballarat this Saturday at 2pm.
Also coming up is an Australian Art Food Cocktail Party, which will be held November 12 to coincide with the exhibition.
