After almost two years of waiting, Mair Street brewery Athletic Club will officially open its doors this weekend.
Owner Peter Parry first moved into the premises at the beginning of March in 2015, with the intention of opening his doors by July of the same year.
However a number of confrontations with the City of Ballarat over planning permits and liquor licensing meant the brewery’s opening date was continually pushed back .
Mr Parry said it was a relief to be finally brewing in his own space after being forced to use other breweries in the interim.
“It’s been a long haul but all the officialdom is over now so you put that behind you and just get into it,” Mr Parry said.
Housed in the former site of Rebellion Brewing, Athletic Club will boast five beers when it opens to the public on Friday.
The brewery plans on brewing 6000 litres of beer between now and Christmas, and will also allow home brewers to come and use professional equipment from mid-December onward.
