The cousins brought over school supplies donated from classmates at Black Hill Primary and Saint Francis Xavier Primary to cyclone-affected areas of the country.
Noah’s mother Lauren Cameron said the family had enough stationery to fill two spare suitcases.
Dropping off the supplies themselves not only ensured the schools received them, but also provided a valuable learning experience.
“We got to show our two children what nine-year-olds don’t have over there. Our schools have ipads, they have chalk boards,” Ms Cameron said.
“Noah said he was really glad we got to go over. He said it felt like he had done something good giving to those poorer than him, which I thought coming from a nine-year-old is quite humbling.”
It’s something the family would love to do again. Ms Cameron, who works as a nurse, is already looking into how to bring over more medical supplies.
“We didn’t realise until we got there that on the other side of the coast people were still living in tents,” she said.
“I would have liked to have dropped more off, but you can only take so much.”
