The City of Ballarat’s Council’s Bakery Hill Christmas tree has been vandalised.
The tree was attacked sometime on Tuesday evening or Wednesday.
Local Peter Sparkman recorded the damage on Facebook.
“Someone's been having a very Merry Christmas outside McDonald's at Bakery Hill, Ballarat … involving all the giant baubles they could reach up to on the Christmas tree, pulling them off and smashing them on the ground. I suppose at least this plastic tree hasn't burnt to the ground like in previous years at the other end of the mall,” wrote Mr Sparkman.
Mr Sparkman is referring to the tree that was set fire to in recent years, and was rumoured to be burned as a protest by a homeless person over irresponsible use of funds.
The Courier could not confirm the veracity of the story.
Bridge Mall centre manager John Marios said vandalism of the tree was a sadly repetitive occurrence.
“The decorations get ripped off quite a bit,” he said.
The Courier has approached council and police for comment.
