It’s not New Year's Eve without a party and Ballarat has an array on offer.
The weather is predicted to be a perfect 25 degrees and this December 31, Ballarat residents are expected to be out in droves to welcome in the New Year with parties, performances and shindigs happening inside and outside of town.
Slip into your platforms and brush out your afro this New Year’s Eve with Suttons House of Music in Sturt Street hosting a 1970s themed disco.
Dance the night away to seven piece disco band The Urban Playboys who are made of Melbourne’s premier musicians and performers.
Suttons co-owner Dani Fry said the group were renowned for “being one the best disco bands around”.
“We’re expecting a night of dancing and classic 70s music,” Ms Fry said. “We often have dress-up events and we have had a great success rate of people really get into the themes so we are expecting some fabulous costumes.”
For those looking to entertain the kids, look no further than Kryal Castle. The replica castle is offering a four-course medieval feast for families.
Among an array of culinary delights including feasting platters, seasonal soup, roast meats and something sweet to finish, the castle will also have entertainers performing medieval skits and games throughout the night and a fire performer to finish.
It is difficult to think of another such long-running tradition in Ballarat.
But for those wanting to literally “ring in” 2017 with a ye olde bent, the Ballarat Town Hall will be donging the Alfred Memorial Bells, following in a tradition that has stood since 1871.
The bells will ring from 9pm until past midnight. Hop Temple will host its second annual Roaring 20s Party for a night of elegance and entertainment. The George Hotel will go back in time with “dance to the decades” party, while the Bluestone nightclub is hosting a Fire and Ice Masquerade Ball from 8pm.
The Ballarat Golf Club is a hosting a New Year’s Eve Party with a three-course meal and Irish Murphy's on Sturt Street is also holding a special event with live music.
