Former Wombarra boy Ryan Anderson, 30, beat 29 other hopefuls for the crown, attributing his love for furry friends to get him over the line.
Anderson, an RSPCA inspector, fosters dogs in his spare time and promotes the pups for adoption via his Aussie Dog Guy Facebook and Instagram.
“I think I’ve got more of an affinity with dogs than humans – I get them, they get me,” he said.
“I’m just an all round general dog guy, I think that’s largely why I won, because I had a dog in my photo.
“I just want to use the publicity to bring more light to rescuing dogs.”
While the Edmund Rice alumnus now lives in South Australia, three of his brothers still live in the Illawarra and ready to mingle. Anderson admitted some of them had fun at the official party at the Ivy in Sydney (two of them “freshly single”) on Wednesday night.
“I think my older brother was loving it because he looks a lot like me and just getting numbers last night because people thought he was I,” he laughed.
Cosmopolitan editor Claire Askew said Anderson embodied the spirit of a “true Aussie bloke”.
“He’s dedicated his life to rescuing abused and homeless dogs and even had fellow Bachelor finalist actor Ishak Issa urging people to vote for him. There’s no denying Ryan’s a top bloke and the bonus is he’s on Tinder – so get swiping, ladies,” Ms Askew said.
