Duc Nguyen appeared briefly before the Ballarat Magistrates' Court for committal mention on Thursday where he indicated he will plead guilty to the two counts of cultivating a commercial quantity of cannabis.
Duc and a co-accused were arrested in October after the Ballarat Divisional Response Unit found approximately 130 cannabis plants during a search warrant at a property on Maple Avenue, Wendouree.
The bust followed a second grow house in Mountview Drive, Sebastopol where it is alleged another 231 plants were found on August 31.
The committal hearing was slightly delayed on Thursday after it was established no Vietnamese interpreter would be available to assist the accused due to current strikes over pay disputes.
Fortunately a lawyer representing the co-accused stated he spoke Vietnamese and relayed information to Nguyen over the videolink.
Nguyen formally entered his plea of guilty to the two charges at the end of the hearing and was directed to appear before the County Court for a plea hearing during the next circuit at Ballarat.
The co-accused, Van Nguyen, also appeared before the court for committal mention on Thursday.
His lawyer told the court it was likely his client would plead guilty, but he still needed to take formal instructions.
The matter was adjourned to March 2 for further committal mention.
Neither accused made an application for bail.
