The works include raising the footpath to remove the step up to the entrance of the Regent Cinema.
The purpose of the works is to provide easier and safer access for residents and visitors, particularly people with mobility issues or with prams.
The existing parking area at this location will be a dedicated drop-off and pick-up zone with a high visibility path to an access ramp.
The works are underway and are scheduled for completion in April. The infrastructure works are funded in the existing Ballarat City Council 2016/17 budget.
The council has allocated $13.63 million for road construction and renewal and $1.5 million for bicycle strategy projects, bicycle paths and footpaths.
As part of the roll-out of works, the council recently completed a pedestrian crossing connection between Sturt Street and Albert Street.
