The Mount Helen father of five and grandfather of eight has already run 133 marathons and now has a new cause keeping him trotting along.
Mr Mahoney will run seven marathons in seven days across seven states to raise $10,000 for the Bravehearts charity.
To be held between June 26 and July 2, Mr Mahoney will run 42 kilometres seven times in Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Hobart, Canberra, Kingscliff and the Gold Coast.
He currently holds the record for the most marathons run by an Australian male in a calendar year – 52.
“It began about 10 or 11 years ago for a bit of fitness and I went and did one and it sort of took off and now it’s a bit addictive,” Mr Mahoney said.
He now runs marathons all over Australia to support Bravehearts, which supports children against sexual assault.
“We stop and talk about the message. It’s such a good cause. I just want to keep doing this.”
