Ballarat City Council will retain the 40kmh speed zones in the CBD. The council voted unanimously at its Wednesday night meeting to keep the zones, which caused a great deal of controversy when first proposed.

Councillor Des Hudson said the “sun still rose” after the speed zones were introduced and that they had not “killed the CBD after all”.
Councillors Grant Tillett, Daniel Moloney and Ben Taylor all said they had been initially opposed but were now firmly in their favour.
