At a meeting in February councillors voted unanimously to look for an alternative home for the cinema, which is currently located within The Rex.
However, following intense public backlash, councillors resolved to ensure the cinema would remain in the arcade in the future, shifting to the second floor of the building.
The 10-year lease of $36,000 per annum may be extended by a further 10 years and council will have free access to the space when films are not being shown.
A commencement date for the level two space is yet to be determined. and cinema screenings may be suspended for a short time during the changeover.
