Vikings lose four to put depth to test

Sebastopol Vikings coach Corey Smith believes his side has the best depth in the Football Federation Victoria state league four competition, this will be put to the test on Saturday against Newmarket Phoenix as the Vikings will be without some key players.

Adam Newbold will miss one week with a hamstring injury, Jack Mirabella is also injured while Matt Jamieson is in interstate and Joris Kerstens will also miss.

But Smith has supreme confidence his squad will easily cover their absence and expects his side to return to the winners list this week at St Georges Reserve.

“I think we have a squad of 25 capable senior players,” Smith said.

“I believe we’ve got the best depth in the league. No one wants to miss their top players, but I think we’re very well-rounded.

“After the loss last round, it’s a pretty big game for us.

“It’s a great chance for the players coming in to take their opportunity. I’m hoping they take that with both hands and they give me a selection headache next week.”

I believe we’ve got the best depth in the league.
