The Ballarat Grammar year 10 student finds it thrilling to talk to an audience about subjects she is passionate about.
Tomorrow she will address the judges and audience about education in the semi finals of the 2017 Plain English Speaking Award, having won the regional final earlier this month.
Plain speaking is the art of conveying a complex topic without jargon and “nothing phrases”.
“It’s a really good chance to be able to convey something I’m really passionate about, which is what is going on in the education system, equity and how the decisions of the government affect my generation in terms of what the education system should be teaching us for the sake of us to be able to make a living for ourselves in the future.”
Annabella’s speech will run five or six minutes, with finalists then tested in a second round where they are given a topic and four minutes to prepare a short speech about it.
